Best way to migrate from Mailchimp to SubsiMail?

#25 Resolved
Jason J. 102 days ago

We've been using Mailchimp for a few years and want to move our list and past campaign history over to SubsiMail. What's the recommended way to do this without losing data?

For contacts: export your audience as a CSV from Mailchimp (Audience > All contacts > Export Audience), then import it here — our importer maps standard fields (email, first/last name) automatically and lets you map any custom fields/tags manually. One thing to watch: Mailchimp's export includes contacts with all statuses (subscribed, unsubscribed, cleaned) in one file, so filter to just “subscribed” before importing, or you'll re-import people who opted out. For campaign history — that doesn't transfer directly since it's a different system, but you can keep your Mailchimp account read-only for historical reference if you need to look anything up later.

Good call on filtering the export — almost imported our unsubscribed list back in! One more question: does SubsiMail respect the unsubscribe status if I do import someone who unsubscribed on Mailchimp, or would they get emailed again?

If you accidentally import someone who unsubscribed elsewhere, SubsiMail has no way to know that unless you explicitly mark them — it would treat them as a fresh contact and could email them. Safest approach: export your unsubscribed/cleaned list from Mailchimp separately, import those contacts here too, and manually mark them as unsubscribed (or add them to a suppression list if you're using one) before sending your first campaign.
